Freemasonry is the oldest fraternal organization in the world. It is dedicated to promoting improvement in the character of its members. A Mason is taught to be a good citizen. To be of good character. To care for those less fortunate, and to give back to his community.
Mt. Ararat Lodge # 44 was chartered on November 6, 1809 and many of the founding members were prominent citizens of Harford County. The first men to be made Master Masons in the newly formed lodge were St. Clair Street, student of Medicine and Stevenson Archer, judge and United States Representative. Mt. Ararat Lodge #44 contributed to the formation of surrounding lodges in Harford and Cecil Counties.
